David Jacobs, Space Allocation Manager

David serves as the Space Allocation Manager and leads the Office of Space Management. A licensed architect in Oregon, David brings extensive experience from both higher education and the building industry. In addition to his work with OSM, he has taught aspiring interior designers in OSU’s College of Business, emphasizing the value of great design through hand drawing and advanced BIM and CAD technologies. His expertise also includes database development for the National Park Service and hospitality industry. An avid artist, David can often be found sketching or creating watercolor paintings of OSU’s historic buildings and spaces.

Jason Underwood, Space Analyst – GIS & Mapping

Jason is the newest member of the OSM team, contributing his expertise to both campus floorplan updates and geospatial mapping efforts. He manages the accuracy of OSU’s floorplans and maintains key geospatial datasets that support everything from construction planning to the university’s public-facing campus map—visited by tens of thousands of people each year. With a background in GIS and cartography, including work for municipalities and the federal military, Jason brings deep technical knowledge and a global perspective to his role. A proud Beaver, he’s excited to call Corvallis home again and is currently pursuing his master’s degree in Geography and Geospatial Science at OSU.

Michael Simonson, Space Management Analyst

Michael is a primary point of contact for OSU’s space liaisons, offering expertise in the university’s space management database and leading key efforts like the Facilities & Administrative (F&A) Survey. He also oversees various space surveys, tracking building status as projects move from planning to completion. Having worked in multiple departments across campus, Michael brings valuable institutional knowledge and a thoughtful, process-oriented approach to his work. Known for his careful attention to detail, he approaches every communication with professionalism and care—and, being philosophically inclined, might occasionally ponder the bigger questions behind the work we do.

Dan VanVliet, GIS & Mapping

As OSM’s longest-serving staff member, Dan brings a wealth of experience in mapping OSU’s exterior environments and landscapes. Skilled in both CAD and GIS, Dan plays a vital role in improving and maintaining accurate geospatial data, supporting efforts by University Land Use Planning and other campus partners. His work helps inform projects ranging from campus accessibility improvements to street and pathway upgrades. Dan’s dedication ensures that the university’s spatial data is both accurate and accessible to those who rely on it.
